Clear it - The ingrown hair and blemish healer!

Tu'el Clear It
Clear It - $40.00
Clear It from Tu'el is safe and effective at treating and preventing ingrown hairs! It's also great for skin that is over-producing oil. (Note: if you have drier skin and are breaking out, your first precaution should be to exfoliate and moisturize properly. Check with your esthetician for the proper moisturizer to use). It's manufactured in the USA, is paraben free, has no mineral oil, uses no animal testing, no animal by-products, no synthetic fragrances or dyes. With that said, most people will not have a reaction to this product unless they are allergic to sulfur.

Clear It is a gel base and easily absorbs into the skin. It's formulated with finely milled organic sulfur to kill bacteria and absorbs excess oil without drying healthy skin. Allantoin, an active ingredient in the product, completes the healing process by actively soothing and promoting cell regeneration.

Apply Clear It twice a day and especially after a shower. Use your exfoliating gloves and gel body wash first, then apply the product.

I'm excited about this product and for you to try it!

Reminder -- Drink More Water!

Drink more! Really... drink more water!

Water cleanses our system and purifies toxins. In fact, try drinking water first thing in the morning on a empty stomach. The water purifies the colon and aids in better absorption of the vitamins and minerals you consume throughout the day.

It's not enough to just eat healthy: the healthy benefits of the food have to be absorbed to feed your skin. In return, your skin will look plumped and dewy from the water consumption flushing out toxins and waste products from your body!

Drink more!...for supple skin that is!

Fall & Winter are Peel Season!

Fall is here and Winter is right behind and that means peel season is upon us!

This is the perfect time of year to try different facials and peels because it's not hot and humid. Think of how good your skin would feel to walk outside after having a peel. Ahhhhhh... cool fresh air!

Because we are not as active and rarely sweat this time of year, we are refreshed quickly by the elements of nature which soothe the tingling feeling after a peel (i.e. the Deep Sea peel). We also don't have the blazing sun out to heat our faces or the blazing sun rays peaking through the glass window of our car damaging our skin -- but you should still wear a sunscreen to protect year-round!

This is also the perfect time of year to fight aging by starting on a good skin care regimen! Remember, you're not in the sun as often so no need to worry about what to put on your skin to prevent burning. For instance our Refine 4% is highly effective in collagen production, evening skin tone, and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. But you wouldn't want to apply that the night before an all day boating adventure.

But in the Fall/Winter, wake up to a renewed complexion by [1] washing your face to remove any dead skin cells (remember: cells regenerate at night resulting in smooth skin all day), [2] applying a moisturizer, and [3] finally applying your beautiful foundation to enjoy your flawless complextion all season long.

I recommend a cleanser, exfoliater, moisturizer and lets get the peel party started! Book a consultation today to find out what your Fall and Winter skin care regimen should be and which peel series is for you!

I promise you'll see results!

Fall is coming -- is your regimen ready?

We are officially past the last day of summer! Some of you may see skin peeling, an uneven skin tone, or notice dry skin from sun damage. During the next couple of months you may notice your skin start to change.

During the winter months your skin usually becomes much dryer due to decreased humidity. I recommend you book a facial to repair your skin from the damage Summer has bestowed upon you and I'll recommend the appropriate facial and skin care for you. The way I've recommended you use your products during the Summer will be much different in the Winter months. So be sure and find out what your Winter regime should be!

Colleague Review -- Ruby Mack!

This review brought tears to my eyes! It's really awesome when you can help someone and they take the ball and run with it. I know you'll be amazing in Alaska Ruby! Good luck!

I've never met someone so patient and eager to do a great job. Getting my first Brazilian was very scary. I was so scared of the pain associated hair removal. Before the procedure began, Amber prepared the room and started asking general questions. She seemed really I retested in what I was talking about. Within 12 minutes I'd given her my verbal resume and she was complete with the service. She instructed me to continue talking as she applied and pulled the wax. After the service she gave me basic care instructions and also told me about her blog. After reading her blog and a few more experiences with her I now wanted to get into skin care and hair removal. She was eager to teach me the ins and outs of hair removal. Now, just a short year later, I'm a practicing esthetician moving to Alaska. As a cosmetologist I was only interested in hair care and make-up but now I utilize my entire license. Amber has opened so many doors for me. She is so kindhearted and genuinely a great spirit. I'm glad I met her and even though there will be thousands of miles between us; the knowledge that she has shared will always be treasured and appreciated!!!

Hair Removal -- Rundown and Pricing

Are you starting to notice hair in areas that are undesirable to you? Are you thinking about waxing or laser hair removal? You may be a longtime client of mine, so let this be a reminder that Summer is in full swing, so I recommend having a standing appointment this time of year to secure your spot so that you stay hair-free!  Let me start by saying that both laser and waxing are great, so here are some things to consider.

Laser is fantastic if your skin is light and your hair is dark in combination. You pretty much can expect a decent result. Basically laser targets the hair follicle to kill the root of the hair. The hope is  eventually the hair is gone for good, never to return. For some people it doesn't work as well and you may need some maintenance a few times a year to stay hair-free. I always recommend to clients that have questions about laser to have a consultation with a laser specialist if you are interested because it never hurts to find out if you are a candidate. But beware: once the hair is gone it may be gone for good, so make 100% sure it's in a place you never want hair to return.

As for waxing, you can expect smooth, silky skin the same day you get waxed. It's immediate gratification if you can't stand hair. It's also holistic, low-cost, and proven with no long term side effects. Short term, your skin made be red and tender for a few hours to a couple of days.

I recommend for any body part you want waxed to let the hair grow to about an 1/4 of an inch long. At 1/4 of an inch it will be long enough for the wax to grab with little to no breakage of the hair as it is removed. The result is smooth, stubble-free skin for at least 3 1/2 to 4 weeks for most people. Over the course of two to three years of consistent waxing you'll notice less hair growth.  I recommend taking two ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment to help with pain and the redness. Keep in mind, a brazilian/bikini wax session with me only lasts about 15 minutes tops and you will be perfectly smooth when I'm finished. You'll be a happy camper when you leave!

I recommend exfoliating any body part with exfoliating gloves before waxing and once a day there after to remove cellular debris. Exfoliating ensures the hair grows back standing straight up and will be less likely to grow sideways into the skin. Hair typically grows sideways because skin cells that have not been exfoliated stack on top of each other resulting in a snake-like look under the skin. The hair will usually look windy under the skin and will have thick layers of skin over it. This is the beginning of ingrown hairs when you don't exfoliate. Those little "snakes" can turn into an infection under the skin and can be painful to the touch. If you already suffer from this, no worries! You can come pick up a pair of exfoliating gloves ASAP and it should only take a couple of months for the ingrown hairs to disappear. You can also use a sugar or sea salt scrub. Note waxing helps prevent ingrown hairs whereas shaving is a major cause. If you are prone to ingrown hairs, skipping days of exfoliating is bad bad. With waxing, consistency is key

As for designs for your bikini wax or pricing for other body waxes read this wikipedia entry. Keep in mind the link is just the encyclopedia version of wax styles and is outdated in my opinion. But it's a good start for you to understand because it's text with photos. (If you are under 18, please do not read without your parents permission.)

Many of us are familiar with a Google search, so if you are curious, do your home work! You can ask for anything you wish and even make up your own personal look. Do not hesitate to communicate to me what you want. There is no judgement in the waxing room ladies! Feel comfortable, and trust that I will take care of you and take your pain levels into consideration. I am very skilled and will give you the best wax in town! And note I use hard wax only on your private royalty ladies!

Dr.'s Office Facials vs Basic Skin Care

Brier skin care facial
Prepped and ready for a basic skin care facial
One question I get asked all time when I'm out mingling around town or having dinner with family and friends is, "What's the difference between facials at a doctor's office and the kind of facials you do?"

My answer is simple: facials at a doctor's office are similar to what I do except the doctor is more likely to prescribe Retin-a, Acutane or some other prescription medications first. They are more likely to suggest a laser facial, facial surgery, or botox before they ask you about your diet or habits. Sure, botox is an easy, quick fix. Sure, the wrinkles can disappear, but what's the point if you keep your lifestyle the same or don't change your skin care regimen? You are just in a cycle of insanity: doing the same thing expecting different results. The main concern of a dermatologist is finding and treating diseases of the skin. Skin cancer, abnormal moles, out of control cystic acne, and other diseases of the skin are some of the main things they are experts on. Most of the basic skin care issues like acne, skin breakouts, monthly facials, extractions and peels will usually be referred to an aesthetician to preform. That aesthetician will solely make the decision regarding what is the best treatment to do since that is their total scope of knowledge. Usually that aesthetician will work in the dermatology office or the aesthetician can work independently because they are licensed to practice basic skin care in their state.

As for basic skin care, what I do is conceptually similar to what a aesthetician working in a dermatology office does. I'm licensed to analyze your skin. From here I choose the best treatment to correct your problem. I preform extractions to remove any dirt and sebum trapped in your pores. I also massage more than the average aesthetician because massage is a very important part of your monthly facial regimen. And I have the time to spend as much time with you as I wish because I'm not being ordered by a doctor so I can keep the atmosphere pretty enjoyable and less sterile.

Facials with me are more of a lifestyle change for you and I put a little work back on you to use your products so that you see long term results. Failing to do so leads to ups and downs with your skin's condition and you'll never see the long term change that you seek. I'm neither a medical facility nor a foo foo spa. You can expect a middle ground with me. You will receive a great facial and see results while being relaxed! I do not take the place of a dermatologist and a dermatologist can't take the place of an aesthetician like me. Together, with our team effort, you are sure to have every need met with some pretty desired perks along the way too!

Medical treatments like facial surgery do have their place and are still valuable, but only if you truly need them. They can never replace the need for a proper diet and a basic skin care routine.
I welcome comments and I would love to hear your experiences with this subject.

Personal experience: A sudden skin reaction!

Just wanted to share that over Memorial Day weekend I had what looked like a sun rash pop up on my left cheek! I was a little worried it may be the first signs of rosacea given rosacea can be triggered by prolonged sun exposure and I had been exposed to the sun pretty much the entire day.

Just to give you the play by play, first I took precautionary measures and treated the problem as if it was just a break out. I used Cosmedix Benefit Clean to cleanse and Cosmedix Emulsion to hydrate my face morning and night. I kept my hands off my face and changed my pillow case each night. In two days my problem cleared up. This is a good example of treating your skin well when you suddenly see horrific bumps on your face. There is no need to dry-out the breakout. Instead, give your skin the water and moisture it needs to repair healthy new cells!

Think of a cut. If you dry the cut out it doesn't heal as well as a cut that has been cleansed and bandaged to preserve moisture so it can heal. The exact way of thinking pertains in this case. Our skin is designed to heal itself when given proper nutrition, water, and cleansing. These are building blocks the skin can benefit from to repair healthy cells which result in clear skin.

I don't know what exactly caused the break out, but the basics of skin care surely cleared up my skin!

If this ever happens to you book a hydrating facial ASAP and do not use any harsh products on your face in the meantime!

Client review: Beverly Pollock

Here is a Facebook message review from my client Beverly Pollock whose skin I treated at Body Wisdom.

She looks beautiful!

Thanks so much Amber for help clearing up my skin! Who would have thought that exfoliating gloves would have made such a difference by evening out my skin tone and fading my dark spots in such a short amount of time (1 month). Everything you have recommended has been right on from switching cleansers, the exfoliating gloves, cosmedix products etc. My skin has done a complete turn around! I can't wait to see what my skin will look like in 2 months!

Cosmedix's Deep Sea Peel vs Microdermabrasion vs Laser

Do you want to see a change in your skin's appearance? Do you look in the mirror and become concerned with photo-damage, hyper-pigmentation, adult acne, and hormonal changes but are torn between what to do? It can be a drag researching your options.

Or maybe you have and you've been told everything from "Use this product!" to "Try laser treatments, it'll be gone for good!" or "Take this medication and check back in a month!" Well hopefully I can ease your mind and give some insight into your options. But please, don't go another day without consulting with your aesthetician!

Some things that you should always do before you do any facial treatment to correct any skin problem: start with the basics of skin care, drink water, and sleep. Without a regimen using products for your specific needs, any treatment you spend money on will most likely be a one time deal and you will not see any long term improvements to your skin. The goal is to balance the skin and to to keep it functioning at its optimum level which is eliminating waste and reproducing new healthy skin cells. Glowing skin is result of healthy habits so pay attention and break any bad ones!

Here are a couple of treatments that everyone is talking about:

Microdermabrasion - This a technique that "sandblasts" the skin and, with a combination of mild abrasion and suction, will remove the dead outer layer of skin to reveal new, undamaged skin. The procedure requires no anaesthetic and is generally not painful. I'm not a fan of how harsh microdermabrasion is on the skin. Think of sandblasting all of your skin cells at once. In my opinion, it's too much too quick for the skin to process and be able to keep that going long term.

Laser therapy - This treatment comes in the form of pulsating light that penetrates the skin to produce collagen and erase damage from your skin. Some side effects include scarring and long-lasting redness. After an ablative laser procedure, for number of days you will need to use cool compresses and apply ointment. You may even need to take an antibiotic and an antiviral to help prevent infection. The laser in my opinion can be a horror to recover from, but may still produce a good result.

Cosmedix's multi-depth Deep Sea Peel - This peel requires some prepping with a prep kitThis potent, non-acid “herbal” peel penetrates deep into the skin to stimulate change in the skin's appearance. But it's not just the skin's appearance alone; this peel is chirally correct so it will not damage healthy tissue as it penetrates to stimulate change and erase any uneven skin tone. It utilizes the healing power of the ocean: it is made from sea salt and coral reef. The Deep Sea Peel helps significantly reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes and photo-damage.

Think of it as an American-made, healthy alternative from Mother Earth that actually lifts the damage off the face with little downtime and no side effects. The feel is like fiber glass as I massage it into the skin. But what you are receiving is nothing but healthy for your skin. When the treatment is over it will feel tender to the touch for 24-48 hours but you will not look like you've just had peel: you can even go out that night if you wish! You can wear makeup as long as you follow up with your after care kitRead up on chirally correct if you are hesitant! Trust me: the days of looking like hamburger meat to receive a good peel are over

If you'd like to consult with me for a Deep Sea Peel then book a reservation and I'll explain the prep kit and after care kit more in-depth.

Below are before and after pics of a series of Deep Sea peels I did on my client to improve hormonal acne, scaring, and pigmentation! The results are astounding, so enjoy!

May is Melanoma Awareness Month

In light of Melanoma Awareness Month, I thought I'd talk about sunscreen and why it's important to apply it while you are exposed to the sun so you can prevent melanoma.

One of the things we aestheticians look for every month is anything that looks abnormal. Any moles that are rough to the touch, discolored, jagged edged, or even two-toned are a warning sign and should be checked by a dermatologist.

Melanoma could be a tiny little mole and possibly even white colored on your arm. When surgicaly removed the scar could end up taking up half the length of your arm. If it's not caught in time it can be deadly. I reccommend getting a full body check up with a dermatologist once a year. If you spot any moles that look abnormal to you or you've noticed one pop up and over time it's grown bigger in size, make sure you point it out to a dermatologist!

Tanning beds are a major cause for melanoma and if you look around much of our youth is addicted to tanning. The truth is most of us adults get some sun damage even before the age of 18. As youth, we run around outdoors and are almost always running back and forth to the neighbors' house.

Can you remember a time when your mom said "It's overcast out and not too hot. I think today is a perfect day to spend out doors!" Overcast days can trick you into thinking you're not exposed to the sun because the sun is not beaming bright. But beware of the sneaking sun on these days because she's still producing rays and if you do not apply sunscreen you will still burn!

So, my goal is to educate people at a young age (and adults, it's not too late!) that sunscreen protects your body from the sun only to prevent burning. Once you've burned your skin you stand a chance of getting melanoma.

Our body has a certain amount of naturally produced melanin and even with sunscreen applied our body will still produce melanin to protect the body from over exposure to the sun. This will result in a nice natural, glowing sun-kissed effect and that's natural to your hair and skin.

When we burn and over tan we disrupt this natural process and end up looking fake and charbroiled BBQ. Some people like this kind of look, but it comes at a price for most people. In my opinion it's not worth it.

There are already enough tan people in the world! Let your beautiful pale, milky, or medium skin tone be gorgeous and flawless like nature intended. Play up your eyes and lips, get those pearly teeth whitened, and smile beautifuly everywhere you go!

Oral hygiene can prevent breakouts!

Are you having constant breakouts around your mouth and have tried everything to get rid of them? Have you blamed your digestive system, even to the extreme of changing your skin care product line? Ask yourself, how long has it been since you've had your teeth cleaned?

Deep in the gums are bacteria and food particles waiting to be flossed and brushed away. Over time, neglecting to floss and brush your teeth and gums can cause gingivitis. That bacteria can cause a breakout around the mouth and on the chin up to about the upper jaw line.

I recommend getting your teeth cleaned every 6 months (at least) because no amount of flossing and brushing can get your teeth spic and span. But a dental hygienist has just the right tools to loosen the plaque and remove it completely from the teeth. A good mouthwash to use in between hygienist appointments is Biotene enzyme mouthwash. The active enzymes are similar to skin exfoliater enzymes and they dissolve and loosen plaque beneath the gum line where your brush can't reach.

Fluoride toothpaste can cause rash-like bumps as well and your problem could very well be the combination of both plaque and fluoride. Why could this happen, you ask? It is because the toothpaste can drip from your mouth on to your chin and if its not washed off with a cleanser, the residue stays behind on the skin causing a mild case of dermatitis. I recommend flossing, then brushing your teeth, then cleansing your face to complete your daily skin care regimen.

When all else has failed, fall back to the basics and pay attention to your habits! Most of the time it's a pretty simple fix, so don't rule out your products or think your facials every month have stopped working! In fact, please discuss these kinds of concerns with your aesthetician.

I like to take a preventive approach to aesthetics. I won't recommend a pill or put you on another product if it's not needed. Rather I'll look at the whole picture and identify simple, common mistakes like these! So be aware of your daily brushing routine and communicate any problems you run into with your esthetician.

Breakfast smoothie for healthy skin

A good protein breakfast has everything your body needs to build healthy lean muscles and repair the skin and hair. The skin cells recycle every 28 days meaning the skin sheds and new cells rebuild to protect your body.  The dead skin cells naturally fall off themselves after about 28 days but as we get older, the process slows down and this is why facials and good skin care help to speed up that process to smooth out the skin.

Beautiful glowing skin starts from the inside out. As you can see below, my client Abigail has gorgeous skin and she religiously eats healthy, exercises, and gets regular facials.
In my experience, eating a good high-protein breakfast will save you a trip to the fast food joint! Processed food doesn't give your body the proper nutrition it needs to have energy, alertness and to repair itself. These proteins and nutrients help you put your best foot forward in the workplace. If you're a stay at home mom, the same goes for you.

Love yourself and believe that you deserve to be the best you and it starts with healthy choices in the morning. We are all slowly aging but you have a choice to age gracefully!

Here is my favorite breakfast on the go!

  • One scoop of whey protein powder. My favorite protein powder is Gold Standard vanilla ice cream by Optimum Nutrition because it's low in carbs and fat
  • 5-8 frozen strawberries (frozen strawberries help give the shake that great smoothie consistency and are loaded in antioxidants).
  • 1 serving of 6 oz Chobani greek yogurt
  • 1 cup of 1% or 2% milk and blend in the blender. My favorite milk is Calorie Countdown 2% because it only has 3g of sugar per serving vs 11-13g for regular milk. You can usually find it at Walmart or Winn-Dixie.
  • If you have allergies to strawberries then you can mix and put whatever fruit you want in its place! Make your smoothie custom to what you like and enjoy it!

Chirally Correct - The Cosmedix Difference

Chirally correct skin care! Huh? What's that you ask? And how is this more effective for my skin than traditional skin care?

To be chirally correct is simply a chemistry process that ensures an improvement to the skin at the molecular level which improves the skin's physiology and dramatically decreases the possibility of adverse reactions!

The molecules in chirally correct products and facial treatments such as Correct Peels penetrate the skin without irritation. The product molecules work on skin conditions like smoothing wrinkles (by actually producing collagen) and lifting pigmentation off the face instead of lightening it. The product molecules also slow oil production to correct acne instead of drying your skin out until the point you feel like a snake that needs shedding, but your skin is so oily you can't bear to apply moisturizer.

Believe me when I say I feel your pains with your skin concerns. I can help you through your skin's woes and can recommend the products and treatments to do the work.

Cosmedix's chirally corrected Correct Peels are a new technology of peels that work in harmony with your skin's cell receptors. Traditionally a product or treatment that is not chirally correct would damage healthy tissues by busting through your cell wall creating damage to your cells and causing irritations like redness and excessive burning before the product even starts working on the conditions you were trying to address in the first place! In this case, most of your time would be spent putting on calming cream, staying indoors, and trying to heal the damage from the treatment without receiving a single improvement to the skin.

By switching to a chirally correct skin care line and facial treatments you will see actual changes in your skin's appearance (with minimal down time) for good!

Book a free consultation with me and I'll be honored to provide the right series of chirally corrected products and treatments for your skin!

Help save John Paul II Catholic High School!

Mary DiMarco, a loyal client, a dynamic personality, and a person with a love for her son's school is on the board of directors at John Paul II. Mary has been working tirelessly along with others to save this amazing school. When I heard their story I was touched and truly thankful that John Paul II gave scholarships to needy students from my home town in Quincy, Fl. If you are familiar with the area then you know Quincy and the surrounding areas are filled with "F" schools, gangs, drugs and are stricken with poverty. I was pretty impressed with how this school reached out to those children who otherwise could never dream of attending a pristine school like John Paul II!

This article at Catholic Online details more about their story. Here is a YouTube video showing some of the amazing students at John Paul II Catholic High School:

The school website is www.jpiichs.org and the link to donate is on the right. Please make a donation to help Tallahassee's only Catholic school and make a difference in our own community!

Signature Facial Client Review - Abigail Kahl

Here is another review from a Body Wisdom of Tallahassee client of mine, Abigail Kahl. She really loved her signature facial!

My Signature Facial I went to body wisdom this morning and got a “signature facial” by Amber Adair. She is simply the best! Every time I go I feel refreshed, relaxed, and ready to go for another two months. I used to think I needed to go every month for my facials to be effective however Amber taught me that each person’s skin is different and that if I can only make it every two months, my regimen would be just fine. The Cosmedix products that she uses on my skin make it feel so smooth and they smell delicious. Unlike other Aesthetician’s, Amber also does an amazing foot, arm, and neck massage while the products are working and the vaporization machine is going. She is also very gentle with her extractions (which with other facials I have at other spas have been terrible and scared me away from facials for years) yet gets all the impurities out of my skin. I also appreciate that every time I go in, Amber always has advice and encouragement for my skin care routine. Nothing makes me feel better than hearing that my skin is improving and that my facials are working! Eyebrow waxing and Tinting

An eyebrow wax and tinting serves one purpose: it frames your face and gives it symmetry which enhances your wonderful face shape. A professional eyebrow wax can make your eyes appear more open and pop.

But sometimes waxing is not enough to create this look. Tinting the brows is necessary if your hair is blonde, grey, or if you have dark brows but want them bolder, or if you changed your hair color. The tint I use is a vegetable dye and rinses out in 8 washes. There is no line of demarcation like hair dyes; when the color fades it just washes out. So no worries of having brow roots! It fades right back to your natural color. At first, tinted brows may seem very bold and a little unnatural. This is because some of the dye will stick to your skin in the brow hair but after two washes it blends right in.

Britney, in the process of growing her brows out. This is what the
growing out stage looks like. You can see a little unevenness
and she's about 4 months away from perfect brows! This is the
after picture of waxing and tinting!
Beginning stages but a full arch is on the way!

Mrs. Carolyn, a long time loyal client of Body Wisdom, has been consistent with her brows for about 5 years. Carolyn was one of the first Body Wisdom clients I serviced when I started my journey at Body Wisdom 5 years ago.

Here we have her brows perfectly waxed, arched and tinted to give her face a beautiful shape and symmetry. This is a perfect example of how waxing and tinting the brows pop her skin tone and help her brows look thicker.

Here'a a mother-daughter service for waxing and tinting. My client Wendy brought her mother to see me. It was her mom's very first time getting a professional brow service done! I was honored and, yet again, happy clients warm my heart!

So book your brow tinting and waxing appointment today and I'll recommend the perfect shape and color for your face!

Gorgeous Eyebrows Take Dedication

Would you like full, well-arched eyebrows that frame your face perfectly but think you can't grow any?

Ask yourself, "How often do I look in the mirror and tweeze"? Each eyebrow hair that grows is important. Just one hair could could make or break the evenness in your brows. When you constantly tweeze you aren't giving the brows enough time to fill in empty spaces in your brows.

Ever wonder when you get your brows waxed every two weeks for months they appear thinner and thinner and you think to yourself, "My eyebrows look thin, I'm trying someone new"! There is such a thing as over waxing!

I suggest about every two and a half to three weeks for a brow wax. Every two weeks is a little excessive and if there isn't ample hair to remove the brow just gets thiner and thiner. Please do not tweeze in between brow appointments as it makes the hair coarse and hard to remove.

Ever think "I just had my brows waxed but I have what looks like specks of pepper in my brows"? Thats because the hair was too short to remove. If you tweezed or shaved recently then wax will not remove that hair until it is long enough.

It takes about 6 months of regular eyebrow waxes to fully shape your brows from scratch. There are cases where a client may really have an issue far beyond over tweezing thats not allowing hair growth. In these cases have a consultation with your aesthetician first. Most of the time your problem is an easy fix!  Be patient! Most people are more than capable of having beautiful brows to frame their face.

Here is a finished product of a client that laid down the tweezer. Lara has been loyal and consistent with brow appointments for about 2 years. It took around 6 months to fully complete the grow out period with her brows! One thing is for sure: they are gorgeous!

The path to my skin care and waxing career

Me, accepting my diploma.
I celebrate my career of nine years today! I remember on March 6th, 2003, nine years ago today, when I stood to get my diploma all proud and my head held high! I worked really hard to have all my clinicals, tests, and services completed to get my diploma on graduation night. I also got an award for perfect attendance and was the only student to have completed everything on time. It was a milestone accomplishment. I had always dreamed of becoming an aesthetician and hoped some day I'd get the privilege to attend a good school. When the opportunity came for me to move to Ft. Myers to attend Florida Academy I was scared, but excited at the same time. I thought this was my chance if I wanted to go for this career.

When I was sixteen years old, I began working at a telemarketing firm. I thought this was a good way to make money given my medical circumstances. I was born with scoliosis, so waiting tables or any job that requires lifting was out of the question. I learned through working as a telemarketer that I'm fantastic with people and it taught me to not be offended by the word "no." To this day, when I hear a "no" I also know a "yes" is just around the corner! I'm persistent with my knowledge and care for what I'm doing. I have also worked in salons as a receptionist and during that time I met a super-inspiring aesthetician who I thought was the best and she fit the role to a tee. I noticed how serious she was and how being an aesthetician wasn't just a job, it was her career. I thought to myself, yes, this is a career. These people have a real job and they are making a difference in the world with their passion for service and people. I was touched in such a way that I no longer was caught up in the thinking that getting a degree from a University was the only way! In fact, trades have some of the highest paying jobs and are very important jobs at that! I knew my heart was in the right place and I just had a few more obstacles to face before I could pursue this career.

At the age of eighteen, I had my first surgery for my scoliosis to correct the curvature of my spine. It was a very scary time and was demanding on myself to heal and recover. I thought to myself as I was prepping for surgery, I can do this! I'm going to have this surgery, get better, learn to walk again and nothing is going to get in the way of my dreams. My recovery took three years. It was a very long and taxing recovery but I made it. I can walk, jump, wear the latest fashions, work out, anything a normal girl can do! So finally, on March 6, 2003, I became a licensed aesthetician in the state of Florida.

What once was dream is now a reality! Today I teach women and men about skin care. I provide facials and peels to correct skin problems, I extract blemishes if needed, I listen, I am a friend, I do my absolute best to keep your skin as blemish free and wrinkle free (with a little attention to your hands and feet along the way). I keep bikini lines hair-free, so a woman can have a little bit better experience giving birth to her child. I give hair-free vacations to that college student who's living it up while they still can or that young couple who's going on an amazing getaway. I keep those graduates looking their best for an interview and I maintain the hygiene of career women and men.

I've been through a lot, but one thing is for certain: my career makes me happy, it gave me hope, it inspired me to recover and hope for a quality of life and I'll continue to provide outstanding aesthetic services forever.
